Zverev Clinches Laver Cup 2026 for Team Europe

Team Europe beat Team World 13-5 to win the 2026 Laver Cup on September 27 at London's O2 Arena. Alexander Zverev clinched it by beating Learner Tien 7-6(3), 6-3, so the last two singles matches were not needed. It is Europe's sixth Laver Cup title (after 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024) and the first for captain Yannick Noah, whose team lost 15-9 to Andre Agassi's Team World in San Francisco in 2025. For Zverev, who won Roland-Garros and the US Open in 2026, it adds a team title to his best season.

    What Happened

Team World led 5-3 midway through the second day, after Tien beat Flavio Cobolli 3-6, 6-2, [10-7] and Alex de Minaur beat Zverev 6-2, 6-7(5), [11-9]. Europe then won the last four matches. Carlos Alcaraz beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 4-6, [13-11], and Casper Ruud and Zverev won the Saturday doubles. On Sunday, Cobolli and Jakub Menšík beat Fritz and de Minaur 7-5, 6-3 to make it 10-5, and Zverev's win over Tien followed. It was his fourth clinching win at the event, after Chicago in 2018, Geneva in 2019 and Boston in 2021, and according to AP he now has the most Laver Cup singles wins, with eight.

    Zverev on the Win

"I haven't won a Laver Cup match in two years, so I'm happy I did it today," Zverev said, as quoted by AP. Reuters also quoted him: "But massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way."

A Winning Debut for Rafael Jódar

Spain's Rafael Jódar won his only match on his Laver Cup debut, beating Alexander Bublik 6-2, 6-3 on Friday. His Sunday singles against Fritz was not played because Europe had already won. Jódar was ranked No. 14 at the event and is No. 10 in the ATP rankings of November 2, 2026, a name to follow as the clay season builds toward Roland-Garros 2027.

What It Means for Roland-Garros 2027

Zverev left London with two Grand Slam titles in 2026, a Laver Cup clincher and the event's singles record. Alcaraz, still coming back from the wrist injury that cost him Roland-Garros 2026, won both of his matches in London: the Friday doubles with Menšík and his singles against Fritz. Neither result says much about clay in May, but both players head into the autumn in form. Planning Ahead for Roland-Garros 2027
