What is the best day to go to the French Open?

Facts checked November 2, 2026 by the French Open Insider editorial team

    Short answer

It depends on your goal. For the most tennis per euro, go during Opening Week (May 17 to 21, 2027) or early in the main draw with an outside-courts ticket. To see top players in big matches, choose the second week on Court Philippe-Chatrier or Suzanne-Lenglen. For atmosphere, pick a night session. The finals are on June 5 and 6, 2027.

    Is Opening Week worth it?

For value, yes. In 2026 Opening Week drew 138,000 visitors on tickets under €30, the tournament raised daily capacity to 20,000, and gates opened at 9:00 on the first three days. You see qualifying matches across the grounds and main-draw players practicing on Philippe-Chatrier, but no main-draw matches. Our qualifying guide explains what is on.

Is a weekday or a weekend better?

A weekday, if you want an easier ticket. Roland-Garros's 2027 ticket-and-hotel packages price Tuesday May 25 at €330 and Wednesday May 26 at €350, against €500 for each day from Friday May 28 to Sunday May 30. In 2026 the Saturday before the main draw, Yannick Noah Day, sold out with more than 23,000 spectators.

There is no 2027 package for Saturday May 22, and the program for that day has not been announced.

How many days should you plan?

One day is enough for a first look; two or three let you mix ticket types. Each ticket covers one day, and Chatrier night sessions are sold separately, so you build a trip day by day. At 2026 face values, two first-week outside-courts days (€39 each) and one night session (from €50) came to €128 per person.

Day-session gates open at 10:00 and matches start at 11:00, 11:45 or 12:00 depending on the day, so a full day runs from late morning into the evening. Plan to stay once you are in: Mastercard's 2026 package terms said exits are final. The match times guide has more.
